Enjoy Bob’s high res advice from 11 years off road with James Baroud roof top tents in Australia and Europe.
WHY JAMES BAROUD?
James Baroud because the roof top tents are robust and reliable. We looked around at other concepts but decided quickly on the hard case design and have never regretted it. At the time, James Baroud had a reputation for quality and this made the choice fairly straightforward.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JAMES BAROUD ROOF TOP TENT?
We like the fact that, apart from being easy to put up and down, once up it is strong and dependable. There is nothing like being snug in the tent, with the wind blowing and the rain tumbling down, and knowing that it will not move or fail and will not leak.
CAN YOU SHARE A SPECIAL STORY FROM THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED?
We have no really special stories because everything is so routine. However, I do remember one occasion in the Czech Republic a few years ago. We were at a sailing regatta. It was cold and wet, and our James Baroud Evasion Evolution was fairly new. One of the other sailors had an Italian copy of the James Baroud, very similar. When it rained our friend had to put another layer of canvas over his rooftop tent to keep out the water. Not us! We were perfectly happy and pleased with our choice!
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE CONSIDERING BUYING A JAMES BAROUD ROOF TOP TENT?
We would say to beware of cheap imitations. Presumably, a prospective purchaser has already ruled out a soft top. Good decision. The rigid frame, coupled with the hard case, makes for a nice strong all-weather tent with no need for guy ropes. Then quality counts. Nothing can replace it. A few dollars shaved at time of purchase cannot make up for even one cold, wet and miserable night.
